Are you ready to take the THINK CROSS challenge? Match up the
identical shapes to eliminate them from the screen. But wait--it's not
as simple as it sounds! You'll have to negotiate bridges, elevators,
crumbling floors, and conveyer belts to finish each level. You'll need
all your wits about you to finish each puzzle without getting backed into
a corner!
STARTING THINK CROSS
When you boot up THINK CROSS you will see the title screen. Press
[ENTER]. You will be asked for a password; if you have one, type it in.
(Passwords will be earned after each level.) Press [ENTER] to begin.
The object of THINK CROSS is to eliminate all the items in each room.
You can move an object by clicking on it with the mouse, holding the
mouse button down, and dragging the object left or right. (Keyboard
users can hold down the [SHIFT] key while using the left and right arrow
keys to move left and right. Hitting [T] toggles between mouse and
keyboard.) You cannot move objects up or down. If an object does not
have a floor beneath it, it will fall until it lands on a floor or another
object.
Identical objects are eliminated when they touch each other vertically or
horizontally on any side. You should have no trouble eliminating
pairs--it's when there are three of a kind that things get sticky!
There is a time limit for each room. If you do not eliminate all the items
within the time limit, all the objects will explode and the game will be over.
The numbers along the top of the screen represent points, time remaining,
level, help, and bombs. The window on the left of the screen shows you
the quantity of each object left to eliminate.
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS
Help: If you get stuck in an unsolvable position, press [H]. The room will
be restored to its original position, but the time limit will not be restored.
You can use this function twice per level.
Escape: If you get stuck in an unsolvable position and have run out of
help functions, press [ESC]. This will end the game, but you will be asked
if you want to retry the level. Press [Y] to replay the level.
Bomb: Every 30,000 points you will earn a bomb. Move the square over
a solitary item and hit the [SPACEBAR] to eliminate it. You will score no
more points and you will be unable to use help on that level.
Sound: Press [S] to toggle sound on and off.
Pause: Press [P] to pause the game. Press any key to resume.
Speed: Press [F1] for slow, [F2] for medium, or [F3] for fast.
Skip: Press [F10] to skip a level. You may use this once per round.
ROUNDS AND LEVELS
THINK CROSS is divided into rounds, each consisting of 4 levels and a
bonus level. Whenever you finish a round you will be given a new
password, which will appear at the top of the plate introducing the new
elements for the next round. Use these passwords at the beginning of
the game to skip over previously solved levels.
Bonus levels are not timed, and you cannot use the Help key. They do,
however, give you the opportunity to rack up some big scores!
There is also one secret level per round. You need to move a block to
a secret location in each round to find the secret level.
SPECIAL ELEMENTS
As you get into higher and higher levels, you'll find more special
elements, some of which will help you, some of which will hinder you.
The MARPLOT can be moved like an object and often looks like an
object. You cannot and do not need to eliminate it to finish a level.
The ELEVATOR moves objects up and down. You cannot move an object on
or off an elevator while it is in motion, and you cannot eliminate an object
while it is on the elevator. Nor can an object fall onto an elevator.
The BRIDGE lets you drag objects across wide open spaces. Be careful,
though: Bridges appear and disappear at regular intervals.
The WANDERERS are platforms that move slowly across the screen.
The SHOOTER emits rays that will disintegrate an object. Destroyed objects
are not regarded as having been eliminated.
The ELEMENTALS are pits of fire or water that will destroy any objects that
fall into them. Objects destroyed by elementals are not regarded as
having been eliminated.
The WEAKIES are platforms that crumble under the weight of more than
one object.
The CONVEYOR BELT will move an object in one direction. You cannot
move an object off a conveyor belt or onto one from the wrong direction.
At the end of the game, if you are a high scorer, you will be asked for
your name. Type it and press [ENTER].
